It’s a high variance pokie, so more suited to players who prefer less frequent big wins, and the RTP is 96.2%. The main features are the Eruption Free Spins, where you get 6 free spins on an expanded 8×8 grid, and the Crystallization feature. There are also some randomly triggered features called Rumble, Lava and Excavate. You’ll probably realise that we’re big fans of Play’n Go pokies, and Gold Volcano is no different.

Nature is among the themes that most players are familiar with. The volcano seems to be the newest theme to become popular with game developers as it has been used in many new online pokies recently. Play’n Go presents the newest volcano-themed pokie, where the volcanic reaction will bring in surprises. As the Magma rises, prepare to collect hot rewards.
Gold Volcano is a video pokie game from Play’n Go that is played on the unique cluster pays system. The grid is artfully presented as a mountain that holds the volcano. The game takes on the unique theme of erupting volcanoes and also features cascading reels where winning cluster symbols are removed, and new symbols fill the empty spaces. The game is also packed with bonus features which range from random base game multipliers, symbol upgrades and free spins.
Play’n Go has gone to great lengths to carry out the theme of the game, and this is evident in the game’s background, Mountain-looking grid and symbols. This is a cluster pays game where you need to land 4 or more similar symbols in a cluster and win if they are connected horizontally or vertically. The symbols in Gold Volcano are presented in the form of various jewels and playing cards.
Top on the paytable is the Gold, which can pay 1000 times your stake for getting 30 of them on a cluster on the grid. Other highly paying symbols are presented in green, red and purple and are worth 35X, 30X and 25 times your stake respectively for 30 on a cluster.
The lower paying symbols are represented by the various card suit symbol, and these pay 5 to 2.5 times for a cluster of 30. There are 2 wilds in the game, with the regular wild being recognizable from its W letter. The wilds can substitute other symbols apart from the scatter when completing winning combinations.
The extra wild is available at the pressure feature and free spins, and this comes with a 2X multiplier on the wins. There is also a scatter symbol in Gold Volcano in the form of grey volcanic rock.
True to its theme, expect lots of action and bonus features that can boost your winnings at the base game and at the bonus rounds. The features can reward you with wild multipliers, free spins and symbol transformations, among others.
Cascading Wins Feature
Winning symbols are pushed up from below, and new symbols take the empty places hence making it possible to form new winning combinations. This can continue until there are no more winning combinations to be completed. Getting 6 consecutive cascading wins triggers the Eruption-free spins.
Eruption Free Spins
The feature is played on an 8X8 grid. There are ghost positions at the top of the reels which become active when the feature is triggered. You get 5 free spins for a start and an extra spin every time you manage to complete 6 consecutive cascading wins. You can also benefit from the X2 wild multipliers during the feature.
Random Dormant Features
The feature is triggered randomly in the base game on a non-winning spin. This could be in the initial spin or consecutive cascades. The feature bears 3 effects that come with reel modifiers and which can only be played once in a spin.
All the symbols are shuffled and moved to new positions, and one symbol is replaced by a scatter.
Mystery lava symbols are spewed out on the outer reel positions. The lava symbols turn into random symbols such as wilds but cannot turn into scatters.
3 to 5 wilds are randomly added onto the grid on random positions.
Pressure Feature
As the pressure mounts, random wilds are placed on the grid during the cascading feature. The wilds can include the extra wild which comes with a 2X multiplier. The wilds can also multiply each other and greatly boost your wins.
Crystallization Feature
There is a scatter collection meter at the left-hand corner of the grid. Filling up the 9 pokies on the meter triggers the crystallization feature. The feature comes with symbol upgrades where a middle-paying symbol can be transformed into the highest value gold symbol for higher payouts whenever you collect 3 scatters.
Gold Volcano manages to get you an entertaining gaming session through its creative animations and bright graphics. The volcano theme might not be popular with most players, but it is easy to notice and appreciate the creativity that has gone into producing the video pokie.
The game is also worth playing for its huge payouts. The cascading reels and the many bonus features combine to get a reasonably high win when you manage to unlock the bonus features. The free spins feature comes in handy in getting you close to the maximum win of 10,000 times your stake.
Gold Volcano is available on free mode where you can play it for free and gauge how the features payout. The game is also worthwhile to play for real at a Play’n Go online casino such as Casino Room, where you can grab huge payouts.
